In our corpus of 2,528 scanned small-business websites, the sectors that look best to an AI crawler are not the glamorous ones. The highest average health score belongs to laundromats (59 out of 100), with movers close behind at 58 — and movers also have the smallest share of weak sites, just 8% under 50. At the other end, pharmacies average 46, the worst in the corpus, with 60% of them under 50, followed by doctors at 48.

On individual signals the leaders change: travel businesses had the highest schema-markup adoption (71%) and the highest SPF adoption (87%); gyms were second on schema at 67%. AI assistants build answers from what a site's raw HTML gives them: structured business data they can quote, pages they are allowed to crawl, and titles and descriptions that say what the business is. A site missing those isn't penalised by AI assistants — it simply isn't there. Sectors whose sites are built on booking and listing platforms tend to inherit those building blocks; sectors on older custom sites tend to lack them. The health score is a weighted roll-up of exactly those measured checks, so the ranking is a ranking of building blocks, not of businesses.
Two rules keep these cuts honest: a group is published only when at least 30 sites were measured in it, and no individual business or domain is ever named. A sector average also cannot tell you about your site — a pharmacy with populated schema markup and a clean robots.txt is more visible than the average restaurant.
