How do I get my business recommended by ChatGPT?

You cannot pay for inclusion. You can stop being unreadable — and most businesses haven't.

Start by not being invisible. SOCi's study of 350,000 locations found just 1.2% of local businesses are ever recommended by ChatGPT — against 35.9% visible in Google's local pack — while 45% of consumers now use AI to find local businesses (BrightLocal, 2026). There is no paid placement to buy and no submission form to fill in. What you control is whether your site is readable, quotable and reachable when the assistant assembles its answer — and measurably, most sites are not.

Remove the four measured blockers

Make the answerable page, not just the pretty one

Retrieval engines quote the passage under the heading that matches the question. A page whose only claim to a query lives in its <title> is matched on metadata and not extractable as an answer — so write the questions customers actually ask as headings, and put the answer in the first sentence under each. Pair that with a meta description that says plainly what you do and where, because for 29% of the sites we scanned, that sentence simply does not exist.

What no one can promise you

Nobody controls whether an assistant chooses you — not us, not an agency, not a listing service. Readability removes the structural reasons you cannot be chosen; the choice itself belongs to the assistant and its index. Anyone selling guaranteed AI recommendations is selling something they do not have. What is measurable is whether a crawler can retrieve and quote your site, and the free scan measures exactly that.

Straight answers

Can I pay to be recommended by ChatGPT?

No. There is no paid placement in assistant answers. What you can do is remove the measurable failures — JavaScript-hidden content, blocked crawlers, empty or absent structured data — that keep a site out of the candidate pool entirely.

How long until fixes show up in answers?

Crawlers have to revisit and the index has to refresh, so expect weeks rather than hours. Fixes to your HTML are visible to our scan immediately, which is how you confirm the change actually shipped.

Why is the recommended rate so low — 1.2%?

Because most sites give assistants nothing to work with. In our own 2,528-site corpus, fewer than half had structured business data, 29% had no meta description, and a third scored under 50 on the signals crawlers read.

Does this apply to Claude and Perplexity too?

Yes. GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot all fetch raw HTML without running JavaScript, so the same four blockers apply across assistants — fixing them once fixes them for all.
